Walden Inn/Emerson Room A -- "The Scholarship of Teaching"
This seems to be a timely topic due to the recent changes
in our review criteria for tenure and promotion. We will
discuss the two types of scholarship of teaching: conducting
research on teaching methods and writing texts for classes.
A panel of faculty members, consisting of Dave Berque, Associate
Professor of Computer Science; David Newman, Professor of
Sociology; Jim Benedix, Associate Professor of Biology; and
Bob Hershberger, Associate Professor of Modern Languages,
will present their experiences in the scholarship of teaching
followed by a question and answer period and discussion.

Walden Inn/Galleria -- "What the Best College Teachers Do"
This roundtable will be a bit different from the rest and
will function as a reading group that meets once to discuss
the book "What the Best College
Teachers Do" written by Ken Bain, Director of the Center for Teaching Excellence
at New York University. He posits that it's not what teachers do, it's what
they understand that matters. Faculty Development will provide the books to
faculty members who would like to attend the discussion. I believe the material
will lead to a lively discussion!
Friday, April 22, 3:45 "Project Showcase" This
event will highlight a number of DePauw faculty projects
that were developed with support of the Midwest Instructional
Technology Center.
